1968 Gibson SG Standard / Cherry Red

[DATA]

  • Serial Number : 511889

Gibson 1968 SG Standard! The SG replaced the Les Paul in 1961, and was named the "Les Paul Standard" when it was first released, but was renamed the "SG Standard" in late 1963. The SG with a large pickguard, which is known to be used by Pete Townshend and Angus Young, was released in 1966. The neck shape was also narrow, representing Gibson's mid to late 60's style.

The SG had many changes in the neck joint specification, and this one has the 19-fret joint specification that was adopted from 1967 to 1971. The pegs are double line with "KLUSON DELUXE" engraved on them.

This serial was used in both 1965 and 1968, but you can see from the pickguard and neck joint that it was made in 1968.

The original Les Paul shape (single cutaway) was reissued in 1968 as the Gold Top, Les Paul Custom, and Les Paul Deluxe, but the shape was different from the 1950s. In 1968, a 1-piece mahogany body was used, preserving the 1950s production methods, and according to one theory, surplus 1950s wood for the body was used!?!? There is also a rumor that surplus wood from the 1950s was used for the body. In addition, the pancake body, which has been available since 1969, was made by sandwiching the body material used for SG in the 1960s (which is thinner than normal because it is an SG). There is a rumor that it is ......, and it is still talked about as a "romance" that tickles the maniac's heart. I think the SG is such a guitar with outstanding style that will never fade away in any era. What a legendary is!
